The wider storm

A few hours after convection from the morning largely decayed, additional showers and thunderstorms developed thanks to an upper-level trough moving over west Texas and southeast New Mexico (along with upslope flow and some remnant outflow boundaries). Heavy rain led to flash flooding in Dawson County, while a landspout was observed west of Hobbs.

Began near Lamesa (32.7334, -101.9981).
