A 58 mph wind gust was measured by the Xcel mesonet site located four miles northeast of Lefors.

The wider storm

A surface boundary was in the vicinity of the combined Panhandles through the afternoon and evening hours of June 29th. This combined with daytime heating, ample instability and enough dry air in the higher levels of the atmosphere to bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to the region. Some of these storms intensified to be severe with damaging winds being the primary hazard.
