The wider storm

Showers and thunderstorms began to develop during the early afternoon hours across northwestern Pennsylvania with the passage of a potent shortwave diving southeastward out of the Great Lake region on June 6, 2026. Storms gradually trended upscale with some strong-to-severe thunderstorms beginning to form by the afternoon hours within an environment with ample instability (2000 J/kg of CAPE) and bulk shear (30 knots) in place across northwestern Pennsylvania. Wind damage was observed in portions of Warren County during the early afternoon hours before storms across northern Pennsylvania began to weaken. Additional development to the south continued to exhibit upscale growth with more favorable shear and instability in place given less cloud cover, with two broken lines of thunderstorms gradually congealing into one solid line across eastern Pennsylvania. These lines of thunderstorms produced widespread tree damage between the Interstate 80 and 78 corridors. Further south, a bowing segment across southwestern Pennsylvania continued into Somerset County producing destructive wind damage near Somerset. This bow exhibited some weakening as it progressed further east, but continued to produce considerable tree damage across portions of Bedford and Fulton Counties before weakening further.

Began near Somerset (40.0102, -79.0793).
