What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

A damage path was discovered across northern Wheeler County associated with a supercell circulation suggesting a weak tornado. In addition, a storm chaser documented a periodic funnel with the storm and although they didn't fully condense to the ground, there was periodic dust picked up at the surface. Isolated damage indicators provided challenges for the survey, however a relatively narrow path of damage mainly consisted of snapped large tree limb existed from west to southwest of Allison. There was one small outbuilding destroyed as well, but the EF1 tornado rating was based on snapped power poles early in the track. Otherwise, most of the path was

EF0 damage. The maximum estimated wind speed was 90mph.

The wider storm

High pressure over New Mexico helped trigger new storms off the higher terrain. These storms then moved to the south and east into the combined Panhandles. With favorable instability and wind shear, these storms became strong to severe with the main hazards being large hail and damaging winds. There were some supercells that did produce tornadoes across portions of the eastern combined Panhandles as well as high end wind damage from straight line winds. Given sufficient moisture in place, slow moving storms or storms that moved over the same locations, a few communities in the eastern combined Panhandles did receive heavy rainfall that resulted in flash flooding.

Began near Allison (35.6064, -100.1760).
