Flood May 25, 2026 – May 27, 2026 · Yukon Delta Coast, Alaska
Where the report was made, with tornadoes recorded within 15 miles over the years.
What the National Weather Service wrote
The NWS River Watch team reported that the Alakanuk Slough jammed at its mouth, causing minor flooding that primarily impacted the south riverbank. Roads leading to the airport were covered in water by Tuesday afternoon (May 26th). However, because the upstream Yukon River was largely clear of ice, the flood threat diminished quickly, and water levels dropped 2 feet below bankfull by Tuesday night.
The wider storm
The dynamic breakup front finally arrived at the lower reaches of the Yukon River across the Yukon Delta by late May 2026. This resulted in severe, cascading flood impacts for multiple communities as the high water made it's way to the mouth of the Yukon River, inundating the coastal delta.
Began near Alakanuk (62.6670, -164.7643).
