What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

A tornado with estimated peak winds of 105 mph touched down along County Road E 2200 North, west of Route 23. The tornado may not have been fully condensed to the ground or consisted of intermittent touchdowns along the first two thirds of the path where only minor tree damage was noted. A photo from a storm chaser showed a couple of mesovortices crossing Interstate 55. Minor tree damage continued as the tornado moved through Odell and areas west of Route 47. Based on storm chaser videos, the tornado appeared to rapidly strengthen and widen while crossing Route 47. Sporadic tree damage continued along the path until utility poles were broken and leaning along E 3000 North Road and N 3100 East Road. Drone imagery showed swirl marks in fields west of N 3200 East Road. Several outbuildings and a garage were destroyed just east of N 3200 East Road and a house had a significant portion of its roof structure removed. Several farm buildings and a garage were destroyed just east of N 3300 East Road, south of Route 17. A large barn was tipped on its side. Significant tree damage also occurred.
