Drought in Southern Penobscot, Maine

Drought May 1, 2026 – May 11, 2026 · Southern Penobscot, Maine

What the National Weather Service wrote

A lack of adequate precipitation in Southern Penobscot prolonged drought into early May, until wetting pattern provided relief. Conditions were Severe Drought (D2) in late April, improved to Moderate Drought (D1) by May 12th.

The wider storm

Persistent drought improved in May for portions of the Bangor region. Bangor's climate site recorded below average precipitation in May. At the end of April, southwestern Penobscot and and southern Piscataquis were in Severe Drought (D2). Despite the month being drier than normal, wet pattern at the beginning of the month helped grounds to recover, and improve Bangor region to Moderate Drought (D1) by the middle of the month.
