What the National Weather Service wrote

Wind gust was recorded at the Alligator Bridge XALI WeatherFlow station as thunderstorms moved through the area.

The wider storm

An approaching cold front and trough of low pressure combined with a very unstable airmass produced conditions conducive for scattered thunderstorm development. An inland moving sea breeze aided in the development of a cluster of thunderstorms with this activity tracking from the Coastal Plain of Eastern North Carolina east through the afternoon and early evening hours impacting portions of the Albemarle Sound and inland rivers. A few isolated strong to severe thunderstorms developed bringing a strong wind threat to portions of the Alligator River.

Began near Alligator River Bridge (35.9000, -76.0000).
