The wider storm
A warm and moist environment set up across Eastern North Carolina during the afternoon hours of June Twenty-Eighth. At the same time the seabreeze combined with a surface trough across the Coastal Plain and an incoming cold front to become the focus of scattered shower and thunderstorm activity during the afternoon and evening hours. With this favorable environment in place, a few of these storms became strong to severe in nature bringing a strong and damaging wind threat to the Neuse and Bay Rivers, southern Pamlico Sound, and along the coastal waters south of Ocracoke Island.
Began near Oriental (35.0095, -76.6650).
