The wider storm
Strong to severe thunderstorms developed across portions of northeastern Oklahoma during the late afternoon of the 13th, along a pre-existing outflow boundary from earlier organized thunderstorms that moved through Arkansas. The atmosphere became very unstable during the afternoon across the region, and deep layer wind shear was strong. This combination resulted in several supercell thunderstorms developing, which produced large hail up to two inches in diameter and damaging wind gusts.
Thunderstorms also developed along a cold front stretching across south central Kansas during the late afternoon and early evening. These thunderstorms moved southeast across northeastern Oklahoma during the evening and organized into a squall line, which produced a number of damaging wind reports.
Began near White Oak (36.5400, -95.2200).
