What the National Weather Service wrote
An ice jam near the mouth of the Yuki River released a massive surge of water. As this front surged past Galena and Koyukuk, the Galena river gauge recorded a minor flood crest of 124.8 feet on May 15, before slowly receding into action stage (123.7 feet) by May 17.
The wider storm
The primary breakup front from the Upper Yukon tracked down through the middle section of the Yukon during the middle part of May. While some snowmelt flooding remained over parts of the Upper Yukon, primary dynamics shifted to significant mechanical ice jam releases, notably near the mouth of the Yuki River jam, which caused rapid surges downstream.
Began near Koyukuk (64.8231, -157.8151).
