The wider storm
During the 10th late afternoon and early evening, a warm, unstable air mass interacting with an approaching upper wave and weak frontal boundary triggered a few severe thunderstorms across central Indiana. Adequate atmospheric instability and vertical wind shear supported brief cell organization as convective activity tracked eastward across the region.
The severe weather event began around 5:50 PM EST in Tippecanoe County, where initial storm development produced isolated severe hail up to 1.00 inch in diameter. As the convection moved eastward into Howard County near 6:55 PM EST, storms produced localized straight-line thunderstorm wind gusts which downed several trees before activity dissipated later in the evening.
Began near Kokomo (40.4700, -86.1400).
