The wider storm

Broad southwesterly flow aloft on the eastern side of a western CONUS trough carried several weak disturbances across the central Gulf Coast, while southeasterly low-level flow maintained deep moisture. Scattered afternoon thunderstorms developed across southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi. A thunderstorm over the local marine areas produced a waterspout near the Interstate 10 Twin Span as well as severe wind gusts at other coastal locations.
