The wider storm
A frontal boundary south of Interstate 10 slowed and stalled near the coast while successive midlevel disturbances crossed the Lower Mississippi Valley. Deep moisture pooled along the boundary, with precipitable water values near 2 inches, supporting efficient rainfall and repeated rounds of thunderstorms. Morning storms produced large hail and damaging winds. Additional storms trained across portions of the Interstate 10 and 12 corridors, causing flash flooding in the Baton Rouge and Hammond areas. During the afternoon, stronger storms reached the New Orleans metropolitan area, lower Mississippi River parishes, and adjacent coastal waters, producing damaging winds, and large hail.
Began near Williamsport (30.8800, -91.6800).
