The wider storm

A stationary frontal boundary was draped across the northern Gulf Coast beneath nearly zonal midlevel flow. At the same time, a series of upper-level impulses moved through the region. A weak surface low developed along the boundary during the afternoon hours and supported renewed thunderstorms over the southeast Louisiana coastal waters. The storms moved east across waters south of Cocodrie and Venice and produced several severe marine wind gusts.
