The wider storm

On June 11, 2026, a severe flash flood event impacted Carroll County, New Hampshire, devastating numerous roads in the town of Madison and surrounding areas. The event was driven by a slow-moving warm front interacting with an unstable and moist airmass. This setup allowed a cluster of deep convection to train continuously over the region, producing extreme localized rainfall rates that peaked at an estimated 4 inches per hour. Total accumulations reached 5.47 inches near Albany and a public report of 4.45 inches in Madison, qualifying the deluge as a 100-year average recurrence interval (ARI) event. The extreme flooding was heavily exacerbated by saturated antecedent soil conditions left behind by a remarkably wet May, which had already seen double its typical rainfall.

Began near Eaton Center (43.9100, -71.0700).
