What the National Weather Service wrote
Local broadcast media relayed a photograph showing floodwater reaching at least the floorboard of a convertible Ford Mustang in the Copper Mill subdivision.
The wider storm
A trough axis extending from the eastern Great Lakes into the Mid-Atlantic states and a ridge centered over the central and southern Plains placed the forecast area directly between both features. A weak front approached the area from the north. This front was the initial focal point for convective activity to begin developing in the afternoon hours. This activity capitalized on a warm, moist, and unstable environment to produce slow moving strong thunderstorms in the Baton Rouge area. These storms produce isolated flash flooding and severe wind gusts.
Began near Zachary (30.6400, -91.1900).
