What the National Weather Service wrote

An extended period of wind gusts from 58 to 66 mph occurred in the wake of earlier storms at the South Dakota Road Weather Information System site west of Plankinton.

The wider storm

A large-scale mid-level trough nudged out into the Northern Plains while a strong frontal boundary moved out across the Dakotas. Storms initiated with up to 3000 J/kg elevated CAPE near a surface boundary. Storms quickly organized into a linear system with short bowing segments which produced gusts of 60 to 75 mph. A large trailing stratiform precipitation shield developed featuring a strong wake-low an hour or two after the strong thunderstorm outflow winds with gusts up to 70 mph.
