The wider storm
A stationary front extended along the I-20 corridor of East Texas and North Louisiana during the morning and afternoon hours of June 15th, with a warm, very moist, and unstable air mass present south of the front. In fact, the vertical extent of the deep layer moisture profile was the greatest on record for the calendar day, and provided the fuel needed as a weak upper level disturbance moving into the region from the west enhanced large scale forcing within this very moist air mass. As a result, clusters of showers and thunderstorms containing very heavy rainfall developed along and south of I-20, producing excessively heavy hourly rainfall amounts of 2-3+ inches per hour across portions of Lower East Texas and North Louisiana. Widespread rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches, with isolated higher amounts in excess of 5 inches were observed, falling over a brief period of time which resulted in flash flooding. 5.11 inches of rain was measured in Marshall in Central Harrison County from these storms.
Began near Marshall (32.5490, -94.3509).
