The wider storm
A stationary front extended along the Red River Valley bordering Southeast Oklahoma, extreme Northeast Texas, and into Southwest Arkansas during the morning hours of June 19th, with a warm, very moist and unstable air mass present across East Texas along and south of the front. An upper level disturbance traversed atop the front during the morning and early afternoon hours, enhancing large scale forcing for the development of numerous showers and thunderstorms along and south of the front. Given the very moist air mass in place, these storms were very efficient rainfall producers, with widespread rainfall amounts of 2-5+ inches falling over Central and Northern Red River and Bowie Counties in Northeast Texas. These excessive rainfall amounts in a short period of time resulted in reports of flash flooding across these areas, particularly in the Detroit and Dekalb areas with multiple roads flooded and water entering homes.
Began near Detroit (33.6617, -95.2732).
