The wider storm

An upper-level disturbance interacting with a surface trough triggered clusters of showers and thunderstorms across central Illinois from the late morning through the afternoon of June 8th. With surface dewpoints in the lower to middle 70s and copious moisture within the atmospheric profile, the storms were efficient rain-producers. There were pockets of rainfall of 1.50 to 3.00, with a few spots exceeding 4.00. The most widespread heavy rainfall and flash flooding was focused along the I-57 corridor from Douglas County southward to Effingham County.

Began near Tallula (39.9421, -89.9729).
