The wider storm
As a mid-level wave moved out of Nebraska toward southeast South Dakota during the overnight, convective clusters blossomed near and ahead of a frontal boundary with MUCAPE from 2000-3000 J/kg and effective shear of up to 50 knots. Initial, more isolated storms produced hail across northeast Nebraska up to golf ball size, but quickly evolved into bowing segments with damaging wind gusts mainly from 60 to 85 mph across northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota. At one point, there were around 600 customers without power due to downed lines and poles in parts of Jackson county.
Began near Bingham Lake (43.9200, -95.0000).
