Event narrative
The Sacramento Bee newspaper reported that a 62-year-old woman died of exposure while hiking on the Pacific Crest Trail near Tinker's Knob west of Squaw Valley. She was separated from her fellow hikers during a snowstorm. She was later rescued but died on the way to the hospital.

A strong cold front moved through the Sierra Nevada and western Nevada and brought strong winds, heavy rain, and mountain snow to the region.
