The wider storm

On June 30, 2026, a cold front extending from Minnesota into east-central Nebraska and southwest Iowa interacted with an extremely unstable air mass featuring SBCAPE exceeding 4,000 J/kg. Strong capping suppressed widespread convection during the evening, allowing only a single storm to develop in southwest Iowa. This storm produced a measured 58 mph wind gust in Mills County and caused damage to a garage door and machine shed in Pottawattamie County before weakening late in the evening.

Began near Henderson (41.0800, -95.4800).
