Mesonet site XJON at Jones Beach measured a 40 knot wind gust.
The wider storm
A mid-level shortwave and associated surface cold front and pre-frontal trough moved towards the area. Isolated showers and thunderstorms developed and given moderate instability and shear, a few thunderstorms became severe, producing damaging wind gusts.
