What the National Weather Service wrote

The Great Lakes Observing System weather station BIGM4 at Big Bay Harbor observed a wind gust of 34 kt. This was outflow from an approaching thunderstorm. Nearby, a public observation of an estimated wind speed of 43 kt was reported. This estimate was based on the minor tree damage in the area.

The wider storm

Multiple rounds of thunderstorms swept over Lake Superior in late June as minor disturbances pivoted around a mid-level ridge over the southeastern CONUS. These disturbances caused multiple incidences of thunderstorm-driven outflow and gusty winds on Lake Superior from the afternoon of the 29th to the early morning hours of the 30th. A strengthening low level jet and wake lows trailing the thunderstorms resulted in additional periods of gusty winds, above gale force.

Began near Big Bay Point Light (46.8300, -87.7300).
