Drought in Zapata, Texas

Drought June 1, 2026 · Zapata, Texas

What the National Weather Service wrote

Severe (D2) Drought persisted on June 1st, but would be ended on June 2nd, as late May rains finally finished off the prolonged period of Severe, Extreme (D3) and Exceptional (D4) Drought that was dominant through most of spring 2026 in northeast Zapata County.

The wider storm

Periodic rainfall through May was sufficient to end the last of the Moderate (D1) to Severe (D2) Drought across the Deep S. Texas ranchlands and lower Rio Grande Valley as June began. The last of D2 conditions ended on June 1st, with the June 2 Drought Monitor showing only abnormal dryness (D0) conditions across Zapata and Jim Hogg County. Drought would remain dormant until late July.
