Heat in Jim Hogg, Texas
Heat June 19, 2026 · Jim Hogg, Texas
What the National Weather Service wrote
The Automated Weather Observing System at the Jim Hogg Co. Airport recorded heat index values ranging from 111 to 115F, with a brief peak of 116F as the final day of a three-day mini June heat wave continued to produce dangerous, though not extreme, feels like temperatures across the area. The trifecta of dangerous heat may have caused human impacts, but data would not be available until a later date.
The wider storm
As developing Tropical Storm Arthur moved along the middle Texas coast (June 17) and as a degenerated low pressure system along the Louisiana Coast (June 18), very hot air descended on the southern tip of Texas, with record extreme heat index, or feels-like, temperatures for the entire region on the 18th. The high heat index values held on into June 19th, before unsettled weather brought slightly lower temperatures and pockets of rain by the 20th, which ended the short but brutal window of extreme heat.
