Event narrative
Snow begain falling early morning on October 11th and continued through the morning of the 12th intermittently. American Falls recorded 9 inches. The National Weather Service office at the Pocatello airport recorded 7 inches with 5 to 6 inches in Pocatello and Chubbuck city propers. Several auto accidents were reported on the icy roads including one fatality near American Falls on interstate 86 near exit 44 on the 11th at 6am.
Wider weather episode
Heavy snow affected much of southeast Idaho over the weekend period of October 10th through October 12th. The heaviest hit areas were the Eastern Magic Valley and southern highlands where snow amounts over a foot were common. The central mountains also received heavy snow as well as the lower Snake River Plain.
