Event narrative

Light lake effect snow showers broke out late December 4th into the first half of December 5th as very cold air moved over the relatively warm waters of Lake Michigan. Snowfall amounts were light, with most locations receiving between a coating and 2 inches. There was one fatality reported in La Porte County, during the morning hours of December 5th on U.S. 20 near County Road 150 East. According to the police, a 22 year old man lost control of his Dodge pickup on a patch of ice, slid off the road and hit a tree.

Very cold air moving over relatively warm waters of Lake Michigan created light lake-effect snow showers across northwest Indiana late December 4th into December 5th. Snowfall amounts were light. There was one fatality reported in La Porte County early December 9th.
