Low pressure developed over South Carolina during the early morning hours of Jan 20th 2009. The low pressure system tracked northeast and intensified offshore of the North Carolina coast during the rest of the day. Rain developed over eastern North Carolina after midnight on Jan 20th, and gradually changed to snow from west to east through the morning hours. Bands of snow dropped on average 3 to 6 inches across the northern counties with 1 to 3 inches south.
