Winter Weather — Brown, Wisconsin
2008-12-23 · Brown, Wisconsin
Wider weather episode
Snow from a winter weather system caused roads throughout the county to become quite slippery. Drivers had difficulty controlling their vehicles on the slippery roads, causing many of them to end up in ditches.
An accident involving two vehicles prompted a 14-car, chain reaction pileup on U.S. Highway 41 near County Highway B in Suamico at 8:45 AM CST. Even more vehicles, including several gasoline tanker trucks, were involved but avoided collisions. Ten people were hurt in the crash, with injuries ranging from broken bones to complaints of soreness. The Brown County Sheriff's Department closed southbound U.S. Highway 41 at the Oconto County line as a result of the crash and the road remained closed until around 11 AM CST.
The 4.4 inches of snow that fell as this system passed through Green Bay contributed to a total of 45.6 inches for the month. The total for the month made December 2008 the snowiest December on record in Green Bay, breaking the previous record of 36.4 inches that was set in 1887.
