What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

The tornado continued into Hopkins County from Christian County for about a mile. The tornado deposited insulation in tree tops from a house in Christian County. Little additional damage occurred after crossing the county line.

The wider storm

A strong low pressure system tracked east to the Lower Ohio Valley, with a trailing cold front sweeping east across western Kentucky. Storms developed and increased along the advancing cold front as they moved into increasingly unstable air. Very strong low level wind shear was favorable for tornadoes. The storms became increasingly organized, with line segments and supercells moving at over 45 mph.

Began near Romney (37.1260, -87.4768).
