Strong winds occurred in the wake of a cold front trailing south from intense low pressure over west central Illinois. A wind gust to 49 MPH was measured at the National Weather Service office in Paducah. At Calvert City, about 20 miles east of Paducah, an unofficial measurement of 52 MPH was recorded. Numerous tree limbs were blown down, and even a few whole trees. A 62-year-old man was killed in Lyon County when a large tree landed on him. The man was walking toward a house with his grandson at the time. A woman was injured on a university campus in Murray when a large section of a tree toppled on her. Although she lost consciousness, her injuries were not life-threatening. In Mayfield, two houses were damaged when a 60-foot tree fell on them. Two other large trees were blown down in Mayfield.
