What the National Weather Service wrote
A 24-year-old Cape Coral man drowned in rough surf and rip currents near Peruvian Avenue in Palm Beach, just south of the beach's guarded section. Lifeguards had just gone off-duty minutes before the drowning. Several people, including two of the victim's friends, tried to help.
The wider storm
Strong high pressure over the western Atlantic produced a strong easterly wind flow the weekend of April 25 and 26. This led to the development of strong and dangerous rip currents along the southeast Florida Atlantic beaches.
