Event narrative
Sixty to 85 mph winds caused intense damage to trees, power poles, and structures over much of Shannon County. This damage was widespread, and impacted almost all communities within the county. The Missouri Department of Conservation estimated that nearly 13 million dollars of damage occurred to forest land, some of which was due to tornadoes. Hundreds if not thousands of structures sustained some type of damage. A sawmill was destroyed with only one wall left standing near the intersection of Highway 19 and Highway D.
Wider weather episode
An intense squall line impacted extreme southeast Kansas and the Missouri Ozarks with mainly damaging winds. However, 19 tornadoes along with large hail was also observed. Due to the straight line nature of the winds, damage was widespread and intense.
