A 65-year-old man was struck and killed by lightning on highway 74E just south of Fairview.

Airmass thunderstorms produced a few areas of large hail and damaging winds over the North Carolina Mountains during the late afternoon and evening hours. There was also an isolated instance of flash flooding.
