Lightning struck two boys playing baseball during a thunderstorm at Lee Hill Park in Fredericksburg, Virginia. One boy was pronounced dead at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg and the other boy was in critical condition.
Wider weather episode
A cold front combined with an unstable atmosphere to trigger showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours of the third. Some thunderstorms were severe, producing large hail and damaging winds.
