Event narrative
A waterspout was observed about two miles southeast of Pigeon Key, and consisted of a full condensation funnel between cloud base and water surface.
Wider weather episode
A middle-to-upper level disturbance combined with steep thermal lapse rates resulted in numerous strong thunderstorms over the coastal waters surrounding the Florida Keys. The thunderstorms were nearly stationary or drifted slowly southward. Several waterspouts and gale-force wind gusts were observed.
