Event narrative

A waterspout was reported two miles north of Cudjoe Key, and consisted of a full condensation funnel from cloud base to water surface.

Wider weather episode

A middle-to-upper level disturbance combined with steep thermal lapse rates resulted in numerous strong thunderstorms over the coastal waters surrounding the Florida Keys. The thunderstorms were nearly stationary or drifted slowly southward. Several waterspouts and gale-force wind gusts were observed.
