Event narrative
A measuring site run by the Cape Wind project, in the area of Nantucket Sound known as Horseshoe Shoals, measured a wind gust of 61 mph. This anemometer is located 66 feet above mean sea level. National Weather Service Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) anemometers are typically located 33 feet above ground level.

Tropical Storm Danny formed just east of the Bahamas on August 26, 2009. Danny remained a tropical storm throughout its travels up the east coast of the United States, then turning extratropical as it passed just east of Cape Cod and the islands August 29 and 30. Tropical moisture feeding into the area resulted in heavy rainfall mainly across coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island which led to minor flooding.
