Large swells from distant Hurricane Bill produced significant ocean overwash on Ocracoke Island. Portions of Highway 12 near the Ferry Terminal were flooded and closed.

Large swells from distant Hurricane Bill impacted the North Carolina coast from late on August 21st through August 23rd. These large swells produced hazardous surf along with some overwash.
