Event narrative

A waterspout was observed by the weather observer at the U.S. Naval Air Station Key West about 4 miles north of Boca Chica Key. The condensation funnel extended less than a quarter way down from the cloud base. The waterspout moved toward the north.

Wider weather episode

Scattered cumulus congestus and cumulonimbus clouds along a decaying outflow boundary eminating from Cuba during the evening of September 11 through 12, 2009, moved north through the Lower Florida Keys. Several waterspouts were observed.
