Event narrative

A waterspout was observed by a commercial fisherman in the area of Coupon Bight in south Big Pine Key. The waterspout was observed all the way to the water surface and before being dissipated by a nearby rain shower.

Wider weather episode

Scattered cumulus congestus and cumulonimbus clouds along a decaying outflow boundary eminating from Cuba during the evening of September 11 through 12, 2009, moved north through the Lower Florida Keys. Several waterspouts were observed.
