Event narrative

The Texas coastal ocean observation network site at Baffin Bay reported wind gusts to 74.7 miles per hour the gusts occurred from 3:00 AM until at least 3:06 AM CST. Gust are estimated to be similar at the northern edge of the marine zone just south of Baffin Bay, about 3 miles away, based on nearly identical radar presentation of the storm.

Wider weather episode

A cool front moving into Deep South Texas linked up with an energy wave to produce showers and thunderstorms ahead of the front in the early morning of November 20th, with more activity during the afternoon. The morning convection generated a severe thunderstorm which moved across the northern Laguna Madre into Baffin Bay, producing a hurricane force wind gust.
