Event narrative

A line of heavy showers with embedded thunderstorms indicated by WSR-88D radar were moving north along the coast of Baranof Island. Lightning detection data also reported several strikes associated with the band of showers. Strong gusty winds were also associated with this band. Gusts from the showers of 40 kt at Port Alexander... 34 kt at Sitka and 42 kt at Buoy 46083 were reported around the time of the showers.

Wider weather episode

Clusters of showers behind a frontal band were moving northwards along the outer coast of Southeast Alaska. Several of the showers were locally heavy with strong gusty outflows with them. Lightning detection systems were also reporting strikes near these showers.
