Event narrative

A large waterspout was observed about 5 miles south of Boca Chica Key by the Key West Naval Air Station weather observer. The waterspout moved towards the east.

Wider weather episode

As a strong cold front approached the Florida Keys from the northwest, several waterspouts developed in association with showers and thunderstorms developing in advance of the front.
