A low pressure center and the associated weather front over the Yukon Territory of Canada produced a local setup for heavy snow over the Upper Koyukuk Valley as moisture overran the cold air in place. The FAA Weather Observers at Bettles recorded 10.2 inches of snow from the 17th to the 18th, with 9 inches falling from the mid afternoon of the 17th through the mid afternoon of the 18th.
