Event narrative

Very windy conditions downed several trees across the county. One person was killed when a tree fell on him as he was getting out of his car.

Wider weather episode

A combination of saturated ground resulting from 3 to 5 inches of rain and gusty winds from the remnants of tropical storm Ida, and a developing cyclone off the Carolina coast, resulted in quite a few uprooted trees across the piedmont and foothills. Some trees fell on roads and power lines, resulting in periodic road closures and scattered power outages. Several homes and vehicles were damaged by falling trees across the area. Damage was most concentrated in the North Carolina piedmont.
