Event narrative

A motorist was killed about 6 miles southeast of Anderson when he collided with a tree that had previously fallen.

Wider weather episode

A combination of saturated ground resulting from 3 to 5 inches of rain and gusty winds from the remnants of tropical storm Ida, and a developing cyclone off the Carolina coast, resulted in quite a few uprooted trees across the piedmont and foothills. Some trees fell on roads and power lines, resulting in periodic road closures and scattered power outages. Several homes and vehicles were damaged by falling trees across the area.
